比: comparing

A 比 B + adj.

比 goes between the two things compared: 他比我高, “he is taller than me”. The adjective follows right after, without 很: not 他比我很高. There is no separate word for “than”.

Examples

  • 他比我高。 Tā bǐ wǒ gāo. He is taller than me.
  • 今天比昨天热。 Jīntiān bǐ zuótiān rè. Today is hotter than yesterday.
  • 我家比学校远。 Wǒ jiā bǐ xuéxiào yuǎn. My home is farther than the school.
