这 this, 那 that

这 points at something near, 那 at something farther away. 这是 and 那是 introduce people and things.

Examples

• 这是我妈妈。 Zhè shì wǒ māma. This is my mom.
• 那是我的老师。 Nà shì wǒ de lǎoshī. That's my teacher.
• 这是什么？ Zhè shì shénme? What's this?
