把: do something to a thing

把 puts the thing before the verb: 我把书放到桌子上, “I put the book on the table”. The verb needs a result after it, such as 到, 完, 上 or 了; a bare 把书放 isn't enough. Negation goes before 把: 我没把书放好.

Examples

• 请把门关上。 Qǐng bǎ mén guānshàng. Please close the door.
• 我把书放到桌子上。 Wǒ bǎ shū fàngdào zhuōzi shang. I put the book on the table.
• 请把水喝完。 Qǐng bǎ shuǐ hē wán. Please finish the water.
