和 joins people and things: “dad and mom”. It doesn't join two sentences.
Examples
- 爸爸和妈妈 bàba hé māma dad and mom
- 我爸爸和妈妈都是老师。 Wǒ bàba hé māma dōu shì lǎoshī. My dad and mom are both teachers.
