来 and 去: toward and away from the speaker

来 + place · 去 + place

来 is movement toward the speaker, 去 away from them: 你来我家, “come to my place”, 我去你家, “I'll go to yours”. The place follows the verb directly, with no word for “to”.

Examples

  • 你来我家吧。 Nǐ lái wǒ jiā ba. Come to my place.
  • 我去你家。 Wǒ qù nǐ jiā. I'll come to your place.
  • 我明天去上班。 Wǒ míngtiān qù shàngbān. I'm going to work tomorrow.
