让 and 叫: have someone, let, make
A 让 / 叫 B + verb
让 means “tell, let, make”: who, 让, whom, what to do. The person told comes right after 让 and is also who does the next verb: 妈妈让我回家. 叫 works the same, but is more casual. 让 + feeling: 让我很开心.
Examples
- 妈妈让我八点回家。 Māma ràng wǒ bā diǎn huí jiā. Mom told me to be home at eight.
- 老师叫我们写汉字。 Lǎoshī jiào wǒmen xiě Hànzì. The teacher asked us to write characters.
- 你的话让我很开心。 Nǐ de huà ràng wǒ hěn kāixīn. What you said made me really happy.
