Grammar · Chapter 6
把…递给: who gets the thing
把 + thing + verb给 + person
When a thing passes to someone, 给 sticks to the verb: 递给, 还给, 送给, 交给. The thing comes after 把, the person at the very end: 把书递给我. English puts the person first ('pass me the book'); here the book comes first, the person last.
Examples
- 请把书递给我。 Qǐng bǎ shū dìgěi wǒ. Please pass me the book.
- 她把笔递给老师。 Tā bǎ bǐ dìgěi lǎoshī. She handed the pen to the teacher.
- 我把钱还给他了。 Wǒ bǎ qián huán gěi tā le. I gave him the money back.
