穿 and 戴: putting on
穿 + clothes, shoes · 戴 + hat, glasses, gloves
“Put on” is two verbs. 穿 is for what you get into: clothes, shoes, socks. 戴 is for what goes on top: a hat, glasses, gloves, a scarf, a watch. 穿帽子 sounds wrong at once. Both come off with 脱.
Examples
- 她戴眼镜。 Tā dài yǎnjìng. She wears glasses.
- 他穿上外套,戴上帽子。 Tā chuānshang wàitào, dàishang màozi. He put on his coat and his hat.
- 你戴手套吧。 Nǐ dài shǒutào ba. Put your gloves on.
