加以: a formal stand for the verb

加以 adds no meaning; it makes the sentence formal. After it comes a two-syllable verb and nothing else: 加以说明, 加以研究. What is being dealt with goes earlier, with 对: 对这个问题加以研究, not 加以研究这个问题.

• 请加以说明。 Qǐng jiāyǐ shuōmíng. Please explain.
• 我们会对这个问题加以研究。 Wǒmen huì duì zhège wèntí jiāyǐ yánjiū. We will look into this question.
