件, 辆, 条: the measure word fits the thing

number + 件 / 辆 / 条 + noun

The measure word depends on the thing: 件 for clothes worn on top and for matters (一件大衣, 一件事), 辆 for cars and bikes, 条 for long thin things such as roads, rivers and trousers. 个 doesn't fit everything. Learn the word along with the noun.

Examples

  • 我买了一件大衣。 Wǒ mǎi le yí jiàn dàyī. I bought a coat.
  • 路边有一辆车。 Lùbiān yǒu yí liàng chē. There's a car by the road.
  • 这条路很近。 Zhè tiáo lù hěn jìn. This road is short.
