次 and 遍: how many times

The number of times comes after the verb: 去过两次. 次 counts occasions. 遍 is “once from start to finish”: 说一遍, 看三遍. Use 次 for trips and meetings, 遍 for reading and repeating.

Examples

• 请再说一遍。 Qǐng zài shuō yí biàn. Please say it once more.
• 我去过两次。 Wǒ qùguo liǎng cì. I've been there twice.
• 这本书我看了三遍。 Zhè běn shū wǒ kàn le sān biàn. I've read this book three times.
