Grammar · Chapter 1
结婚, 见面, 帮忙: words that split in two
跟 B 结婚 · 见了一面 · 帮我一个忙
These words have their object built in: 结婚 is “form a marriage”, 见面 “see a face”, 帮忙 “give help”. So they take no second object: not 结婚她 but 跟她结婚. And 了 and numbers slip in between the two parts: 见了一面.
Examples
- 他跟谁结婚? Tā gēn shéi jiéhūn? Who is he marrying?
- 我们见了一面。 Wǒmen jiàn le yí miàn. We met once.
- 他帮了我一个忙。 Tā bāng le wǒ yí ge máng. He did me a favor.
