Grammar · Chapter 34

稍微: 'a little', with a tail

稍微 + adj + 一点儿 · 稍微 + verb + 一下儿

稍微 means 'a little' and goes before an adjective or verb. Most often it gets a tail at the end: 一点儿 after an adjective, 一下儿 after a verb, as in 稍微慢一点儿 and 稍微等一下儿. Don't swap it for 有点儿, which goes before the adjective.

Examples

  • 请你说得稍微慢一点儿。 Qǐng nǐ shuō de shāowēi màn yìdiǎnr. Please speak a little more slowly.
  • 这件衣服稍微大了一点儿。 Zhè jiàn yīfu shāowēi dà le yìdiǎnr. This is a little too big.
  • 你稍微等一下儿。 Nǐ shāowēi děng yíxiàr. Wait just a moment.
