Good to know
- Have the address of your destination in Chinese characters: copy it from the booking or ask the hotel. People can read it even when they don't know the English name.
- Pointing at a map works better than describing the place. “能在地图上指给我看吗?” asks the person to show you on the map.
- Toilets are signed 洗手间 or 厕所; 男 is men and 女 is women. Carry tissues: many public toilets don't have paper.
- Metro exits are numbered and lettered (A, B, C…). Check which exit is closest to your destination before you leave the station.
