的: whose
A 的 B = A's B
的 marks whose something is: 我的 is “my”, 老师的 is “the teacher's”. With close family and friends it is often left out: 我妈妈, “my mom”.
Examples
- 我的朋友 wǒ de péngyou my friend
- 你的名字 nǐ de míngzi your name
- 老师的名字 lǎoshī de míngzi the teacher's name
