为了: for, in order to
为了 + goal, …
为了 names a goal, “in order to, for the sake of”: 为了健康,她不吃糖. It comes first or right before the verb. The goal looks ahead; for the reason behind something that already happened, use 因为.
Examples
- 为了健康,她不吃糖。 Wèile jiànkāng, tā bù chī táng. For her health, she doesn't eat sweets.
- 为了学好汉语,他每天听写。 Wèile xuéhǎo Hànyǔ, tā měitiān tīngxiě. To learn Chinese well, he does dictation every day.
- 我们为了孩子搬家了。 Wǒmen wèile háizi bānjiā le. We moved for the sake of our child.
