除了…: except and besides
除了 A (以外),都… · 除了 A (以外),还…
除了 A means “except A” or “besides A”, and the second half tells you which. With 都 it's “everyone but A…”; with 还 or 也 it's “A as well, and…”. 以外 can be left out.
Examples
- 除了你以外,我都认识。 Chúle nǐ yǐwài, wǒ dōu rènshi. I know everyone except you.
- 除了英语,他还会说汉语。 Chúle Yīngyǔ, tā hái huì shuō Hànyǔ. Besides English, he also speaks Chinese.
- 除了周末,我每天都上班。 Chúle zhōumò, wǒ měitiān dōu shàngbān. Except on weekends, I work every day.
