对…进行: carry out
A 对 B 进行 + two-syllable action
进行 means “carry out”: 进行研究, 进行检查. It's formal; in speech just say 研究这个问题. After 进行 comes a two-syllable action with nothing after it; what it's done to moves in front with 对. Not 进行研究这个问题.
Examples
- 我们对这个问题进行了研究。 Wǒmen duì zhège wèntí jìnxíng le yánjiū. We carried out research on this question.
- 医生对他进行了检查。 Yīshēng duì tā jìnxíng le jiǎnchá. The doctor gave him an examination.
- 他们对这件事进行了讨论。 Tāmen duì zhè jiàn shì jìnxíng le tǎolùn. They held a discussion about this matter.
