看好, 看重, 看中: three ways to 'look at'

Same 看, different directions: 看好 places hopes on the future (a team, a project): 大家都很看好这支年轻的球队; 看重 values some quality: 她最看重的是朋友之间的信任; 看中 picked something out and decided to take it (a flat, a person — or their strong side): 公司看中了他的国际经验. The Russian trap is translating all three as one word.

Examples

• 大家都很看好这支年轻的球队。 Dàjiā dōu hěn kànhǎo zhè zhī niánqīng de qiúduì. Everyone is very optimistic about this young team.
• 她最看重的是朋友之间的信任。 Tā zuì kànzhòng de shì péngyou zhījiān de xìnrèn. What she values most is trust between friends.
• 公司看中了他的国际经验，决定让他负责新市场。 Gōngsī kànzhòng le tā de guójì jīngyàn, juédìng ràng tā fùzé xīn shìchǎng. The company took a liking to his international experience and decided to let him handle the new market.
