着: it stays that way
verb + 着
着 after a verb shows an action or state that keeps going: 门开着 is “the door is open”, 坐着看书 is “read sitting down”. Don't mix it up with 了: 门开了 is “the door opened” (the event itself).
Examples
- 门开着。 Mén kāi zhe. The door is open.
- 桌子上放着一本书。 Zhuōzi shang fàng zhe yì běn shū. There is a book lying on the table.
- 他坐着看电视。 Tā zuò zhe kàn diànshì. He watches TV sitting down.
