则: then, whereas
如果 A…,B 则 … · A …,B 则 …
则 moves the thought from the first case to the second: 如果市场不好,企业则需要重新评估投资计划 — 'if…, then the companies will have to…'. It is a word of newspapers and contracts; in speech 就 would sit there. 则 does not mean 'also': 而且 adds one more thing, 则 says what happens in the other case.
Examples
- 如果市场不好,企业则需要重新评估投资计划。 Rúguǒ shìchǎng bù hǎo, qǐyè zé xūyào chóngxīn pínggū tóuzī jìhuà. If the market goes down, companies will then need to reassess their investment plans.
- 哥哥爱运动,弟弟则爱看书。 Gēge ài yùndòng, dìdi zé ài kànshū. The elder brother loves sport; the younger loves books.
