有点儿 and 一点儿: a bit

有点儿 + adj · adj + 一点儿

有点儿 + adj is “a bit … (and I don't love it)”: 有点儿贵 “kind of pricey”. adj + 一点儿 is “a little more”, for requests and comparisons: 便宜一点儿 “a bit cheaper”. 有点儿 goes before the adjective, 一点儿 after.

Examples

  • 今天有点儿冷。 Jīntiān yǒudiǎnr lěng. It's a bit cold today.
  • 这个有点儿贵,能便宜一点儿吗? Zhège yǒudiǎnr guì, néng piányi yìdiǎnr ma? This is a bit expensive. Can it be a little cheaper?
  • 请说慢一点儿。 Qǐng shuō màn yìdiǎnr. Please speak a little slower.
