虽说: colloquial “although”

虽说 is 虽然's more casual sibling: 虽说很难，我却听懂了. The second half usually takes 还是 or 却: 这家店虽说小，菜的味道却特别好. You won't meet it in official writing — there 虽然 or 尽管 do the job. The real trap is hearing 说 as 'to say': 虽说 is one word, 'although', not 'although they say'.

Examples

• 虽说天气不好，我们还是决定去爬山。 Suīshuō tiānqì bù hǎo, wǒmen háishì juédìng qù páshān. Although the weather isn't great, we still decided to go hiking.
• 这家店虽说小，菜的味道却特别好。 Zhè jiā diàn suīshuō xiǎo, cài de wèidào què tèbié hǎo. The place is small, but the food is especially good.
• 课虽说很难，我却听懂了。 Kè suīshuō hěn nán, wǒ què tīngdǒng le. The lesson was hard, but I understood it anyway.
