加之: on top of that
A，加之 B，（result）= A，and on top of that B
The written 'on top of that': after the first fact it attaches a second one, and together they push towards the result: 今天下大雨，加之路上堵车，我迟到了. In speech say 加上 or 再加上 instead. Mistake: mixing it up with 加以 — that one is 'to subject to', as in 加以研究, not a cause.
Examples
- 今天下大雨，加之路上堵车，我迟到了半个小时。 Jīntiān xià dàyǔ, jiāzhī lùshang dǔchē, wǒ chídào le bàn ge xiǎoshí. It was pouring today, and on top of that there was a traffic jam, so I was half an hour late.
- 他本来就很累，加之一夜没睡，整个人都没精神。 Tā běnlái jiù hěn lèi, jiāzhī yí yè méi shuì, zhěnggè rén dōu méi jīngshen. He was already very tired, and a sleepless night on top of it left him completely drained.
