鉴于: in view of
鉴于 + circumstance,(decision made)
The written 'in view of': the fact supporting the move is named before the move: 鉴于天气不好,我们把活动改到了下周. The spoken twin is 考虑到, while plain 因为 is just a cause. Mistake: 因为 names the reason for an action, whereas 鉴于 always backs a decision or conclusion already on the table.
Examples
- 鉴于天气不好,我们把活动改到了下周。 Jiànyú tiānqì bù hǎo, wǒmen bǎ huódòng gǎi dào le xiàzhōu. In view of the bad weather, we moved the event to next week.
- 鉴于他一直表现很好,学校决定奖励他。 Jiànyú tā yìzhí biǎoxiàn hěn hǎo, xuéxiào juédìng jiǎnglì tā. In view of his consistently good performance, the school decided to reward him.
- 鉴于时间不多,会议马上开始。 Jiànyú shíjiān bù duō, huìyì mǎshàng kāishǐ. In view of the limited time, the meeting will start right away.
